Prof. Irina Susidko, Doctor of Art Studies, Full Professor, Head of the Analytical Musicology Department and Chair of the Dissertation Council of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, leading research fellow and member of the Dissertation Council of the State Institute for Art Studies, member of the Dissertation Council of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

Prof. Susidko is on editorial board at Scholarly Papers of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music and at Early Music Quarterly journals. She also holds a membership with the Russian Society for Theory of Music.

Irina Susidko is the author of over 100 scholarly articles and 4 books written in co-authorship with Pavel Lutsker: The 18th Century Italian Opera, Vol.1 (1998) and Vol.2 (2004); Mozart and His Time (2008); The 18th Century Music Theater (2013).

Prof. Susidko has organized a range of major research projects of the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music. There are among them the series of international conferences: Opera in Musical Theater: History and Present Time, The Technique of Musical Composition as well as the online conference Musicology in a Universal Cultural Space. She was the compiler and editor of twelve scholarly articles collections books and supervisor of twenty-one doctoral theses.


Dear colleagues!

Welcome to Contemporary Musicology, a new open-access online journal founded by the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music. Our main goal is to publish original articles covering a wide range of subjects that are topical to contemporary musicology. The new online format of the journal allows us to freely share information, attract new audiences, and initiate relevant discussions.
Each year we will announce two main themes for the journal, which will foster the airing of different opinions and accent the various trends in the interpretation of those opinions. In the first four issues, from 2017, such themes included “the correlation between internal and external forces in the compositional practice of different eras” and “the research of young scholars”.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to the administration of the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music and, specifically, to Acting Rector Galina Mayarovskaya for supporting the project, and also to the academy’s web-administrators for creating and developing the journal’s website.
